How many of you work in your own office?

Discussion in 'General Marketing' started by EdgeStormMarketing, Nov 16, 2010.

After many years of doing business online, I've finally decided to have my own office to do my work. Today is the 3rd week I'm working NOT from my home. :)

When I was working at home, I lacked discipline as there are too many disturbances around me. Working in an office right now makes me more focused on my work.

Paying the rent monthly makes me want to keep coming back and stay in the office longer so that I can utilize it to the max. (just like right now where I'm still typing this at 10pm :)

    What about you guys?

TBH I've yet to think of that . I got a workstation in a room at home but I can do most of my actions from my laptop . Right now I can jump into my car grab my laptop and go live anywhere I want . I'm not ready yet to trade this flexibility for more efficiency .

I converted my garage into an office. I guess in my case it works out since my wife is at work during the day and I'm not disturbed. I must admit though, I do desire a change of environment at times -- that's when I grab my laptop and find someplace else to do some of my tedious tasks.

Working at office has its big advantages.

For me it has been the other way round. I gave up my office to work from home five years ago.
I really miss the focussed & undisturbed quality time one gets at office, and compensate for that I end up working early hrs from 4am.

Am seriously considering moving back to a separate office, as my IM business grows in the coming year.
Lot depends on how much moolah I end up with at the end of the year. It does look promising though.

    Wish you all the luck

    Cheers

Thanks for all your replies guys...

Ultimately the answer lies in your own situation. For people like me with a family, it would be wise to have a separate office away from home so that I can better concentrate and focus without getting disturbed.

But for those who are not experiencing that, and also those whose business models do not require any specific working hours and thus able to enjoy the freedom of flexibility, an office is definitely not a matter of interest.

How I wish I can also be in this latter group, at a stage where I do not need to be there always to run my business since it runs on auto-pilot. :) This business model can either be someone who earns a consistant stable income in affiliate marketing (no need for customer support) or having a pool of employees (or virtual assistants) handling all the work.

All the best to you too mate!

Since your I.M business is growing now, you should definitely look into outsourcing. Maybe you can still continue working from home and let your assistants do the work.. :) :)

I do all my work from home mostly at night. It's kinda nice not having traveling expenses, going out in the cold mornings etc..

I agree that being out of the house has its benefits and it's easier to put your work down when you leave.
Also better if your going to be entertaining clients.

The disadvantage in home-base workers is that you are not free from any distraction. What I mean is that if you have kids they can easily brag in you for a thing or whatever they want from you and if you have an unattended pet that you have to feed then will be distracted from your work and this only mean that you can't stay focus at all time.
