Hi friends, My brother is facing OCD problem. There are a lot of useless thoughts are coming in his mind for last 4 months. He knows the thought is useless but obsession of thoughts does not stop. He is being treated by a psychiatrist but nothing is happening. If anyone can give some new treatment ideas,it will be good.
Find a new therapist. I have OCD and I work with it on my own(because all of my doctors here suck) but if a new therapist doesn't work I'd suggest going to a rehab.
There are many treatments for OCD, as there are many reasons for having it (or triggers i should really say). Personally id say if you arent happy with the treatment or if your bro isnt, consider another doctor. OCD can be treated with talk therapies, medication, and a whole manner of other things. One method particulary stuck out to me and seemed to work in the medication field and that was anti-psychotics in a low dose to get rid of 'intrusive' thoughts, or rather thoughts of repeating the obsession (or what might happen if the obsession wasnt adhered to). Im not by far an expert in the area, but have seen good results from a variety of treatments. Unfortunately the success of treatments vary so much and it is very much an individual thing. If youarent happy, get a second opinion id say.
I know what he's going through, just constantly thinking, and thinking. It's hard, I honestly had to focus hard on things, I never went to go to see doctors or anything, but at the same time it took me 2 years to get over it. All I ever did was just try to focus on a task, and do it. Keep my mind busy. I know it sounds simply, but over time it made a huge difference.
I can't explain it. It's kind of difficult, I mean there are still rituals that I do, but I get through it.
Jerlene.net - I'm the same. Originally I did try to get help from a few doctors, both psychiatrists and GPs who can prescribe certain medications to help as well. These days although I still have rituals as well they aren't nearly as intrusive as they could be and I can usually overcome them when I need to. @OP, it helps to identify what your brother's triggers are. Traditionally speaking, OCD is triggered by stress - a time when the mind is overactive. A good first step would be to encourage him to see a doctor and request medication; Avanza is quite gentle and has a VERY good record.
I have OCD that began im my childhood, im in my thirties now and still have it. Dont spend money on therapy, its just something you have to deal with better. Im currently trying to manage my time better overall in my life, and learning time management can get you to see just how much time of your life is wasted by repetitive actions. Its not easy but try hard to avoid whatever it is that you do. Ignore advice to take drugs or to sit with someone and talk it through for a fee, theres no way i would ever consider those options. Take control yourself, learn that nobody will be injured if you ignore the urge to do what you do and nothing bad will happen because you didn't do a certain ritual.
Thanks everyone who suggested me about what to do. Friend, the current problem he is telling that his mind in tension. The brain is not relaxed for about 4 months.Medication is going on.He says these days,"If i see someone,a fearing thought comes, when i touch something fearing thought comes." The medicine he is taking are Paraxotine CR and Alprazolam. He had OCD 5-6 years ago but he had managed it.But for last 4-5 months he is very worried. For those friends who can not give any advice and say it is a different forum or so,please do not give any advice.I know about this forum.I am taking the advices of people who have dealt with OCD.
First of all I'm not your "friend", second of all, I will say whatever I want as long as I'm within the rules of this forum. If you don't like it, don't post here.
It sounds like the medication may not be working for him the same way now as it might have been in the past. Ive never used medication for mine so im unsure, what can happen though is long term use of some meds means that the user no longer gets the same effect from the same doses, and it could be dangerous to increase a dose if that was the case. When it comes to physical ailments i see nothing wrong with meds for that but when its to do with the mind its something that i feel that no tablet can truely help with. The thing with OCD when explained to someone without it is that its sounds really silly and even a sufferer of OCD knows that their thoughts are irrational but yet when stressed its hard not to do the things that each sufferer feels compelled to do or to stop the fearful thoughts. Is your brother stressed from school/uni/work? Anything that is troubling him in some area of his life?
Actually, he wants to make his career in music. He has worked hard for last 5 years for it.Now he is a good singer infact he is a good musician. He makes his own songs and those songs are good to listen.. What exactly depressing him is that he is working hard for music for last 5 years but not getting success. He has been stuck. In some auditions he got failed and these made him depressed more. This is the cause he tells. BTW he is talented enough. He is earning money too.
Well as I understand the best way to stop OCD is overpower it after it triggers. Start listening to a MP3 song or something that kind, put it as loud as you can. It's a lot like a phobia in some sense. The anxiety skyrockets but it will go down as long as you don't give into it.
Maybe he needs to take a step back from it all, even for just a week or two, when a person is immersed in something for a few years and is so focused on the matter it can make it hard to see which direction they should take, a little time to clear his mind may relieve him of some of the anxieties that he is experiencing. Some people are very tough on themselves and can be very critical of themselves. Long term stress can make a person ill. He maybe needs some time to gather his thoughts and to know where he is and where he wants to go next with his ambitions.
its a bummer, I have to check my doors are locked about 6000 times before going to bed. Eventually i think 'f**k it' and go to bed and listen to my mp3 player until i fall asleep.
OCD is an absolutely terrible affliction. I have it, myself, and it's been getting worse lately. The main way to deal with it is a form of cognitive-behavioral therapy called exposure and response prevention (ERP). Basically, if I have an obsessive urge to do something, I resists performing the accompanying compulsion. As far as "bad" thoughts, which I've had too, your brother has to learn to not care about having the thoughts. He has to embrace them. It's easier said than done. Message me if you want some more help.
