Quick Points.

1) Consider "Read More" / Summary option on the blog, which also acts as a teaser to the readers.
2) The header is too large and take up excess blank space at the bottom.
3) The color scheme looks very simple to me, but then it is user/designer specific. You cannot make everyone happy!
4) Looks like you are copy pasting the news from elsewhere. this can get you in trouble.

First of all, you need to put a logo up there. That text is alright but it's way too plain.
Secondly, maybe use your own background as well. If you decide not to put a logo up, a custom background would be better.
You just need graphics on there. Right now it's too bland.
