You can build a channel for your company and upload your video content, than you should use your videos as responses for related videos by others. Another interesting idea is to do some behind the scenes interviews with the actors or production people... Then you can "leak" these interviews to the online press to build interest in the movie prior to completion.
Yes, IMDB is for all movies. I work with quite a few actors and a few producers who are independents and really not all that big by any means, but they use it. Also, consider cross promotion. Are any of your actors and or actresses models? Who did the music. BACKLINKS FROM ALL OF THEIR PROFILES.... you have a website right?

The key is the backlinks. Create a trailer clip about your movie and submit it to the video submission sites add backlinks to it. Make sure that your trailer video clip is attractive that can entice people to watch and click the backlinks.
