Google Images

For the last 4 years my forum has not shown any pictures that members have posted.

i.e Google has guest access and guests/google can't see images.

5 weeks ago, I let google have access to see pictures in some of the guest areas.

We have skin images indexed for a long time, but no more pictures have came, I thought 5 weeks would be enough.

There is no limitations by robots.txt

I have tried viewing the open sections as a google bot and there are no problems.

There is nothing in webmaster tools that is throwing up warnings...

I realise that google, don't guarentee that they will index stuff, but out of at least 20 gigs worth of files, in the open section, its very odd that none are indexed.

Does anyone have any ideas? Anyway of leading the horse to the water?

I wish i could add title tags and alt tags, but its near impossible.

 

Without a title or alt tag, it makes it very hard for google to know what the pictures are and that is going to put you at a huge disadvantage. Indexing your images is also going to open the door to DMCA filings for copyright infringement if the user who uploaded them didn't have permission to post them.

 

Make sure you have the proper copyright permission.

 

Make sure googlebot has access to pictures, then just wait and you will see results. 5 weeks is not so much for images.

Alt tags are the most important things to check when trying to get images indexed.

 

Its a holiday forum, people don't tend to use other peoples photos. Whats this got to do with it?

Yes, but we've had a few ones pop up after a few days, thumbnails in download section.

What planet are you from.

Yes, thanks for that, but we cant get members to add alt tags.

 

Google images are too much nice and interesting.
