How hard is it to rank in this situation

I was wondering, how hard is it to rank for a new blog/website on the first page for a keyword that has 6000 searches per month?

How much work would someone have to do to get on the first page?
    Any ideas?

    Thanks :)

How tough is your current top 10 competitors? Do they have more than 100 backlinks to their ranking page? What is their PageRank?

It doesn't depend directly on how many searches there are per month rather than how many other webmasters are targeting your keyword.
First page should be easily achieved within a month or two. Top 3 might take more time but if you're lucky and the competition is low it's very doable.

Yes, you have to consider about top 10 competition. The things you have to see: the number of backlink competitor, pagerank, keyword, etc.

6000 searches per month is pretty low. Daily that works out at about 200 per day, then not all 200 people might click through to your sige/webpage, so you might be lucky to even get 100 unique page views per day.

There are at least roughly a thousands keywords that has 6000 searches a month. In what niche are you referring to? The competition varies depending on what niche you are trying to rank from.

The keyword monthly searches doesn't matter. Your site ranking depend on your work. Its true its take some times buts its not a hard work.

Thanks to all for your replies!
But instead of 6000 searches keyword, I found a keyword which has about 3000 searches. The first site for this keyword has a lot of backlinks but its not that related to the keyword.
But the site at third position has only 3 backlinks, out of which only 2 have the keyword in the anchor text!

So what do u think guys, is it possible to rank 1 for this keyword?

How about the number of competing pages for that specific keyword? It is important to know how competitive the keyword is before optimising for that keyword

You need to find out the KEI (Keyword Effectiveness Index)
The KEI compares the number of searches for a keyword with the number of search results to pinpoint which keywords are most effective for your campaign.
The formular for KEI is Searches * Searches / Number of results.
The higher the KEI, the more popular your keywords are, and the less competition they have. That means that you might have a better chance of getting to the top.
