How long does it take for links to take effect?

Discussion in 'Link Development' started by andrej, Nov 7, 2010.

I wonder how long does it usually take to Google to index all new links of my site and take effect in the search engine position of my site?

What is the usual time range? Some links take effect pretty quickly - in just a few days, but some take it longer. How long can it be maximally?

I'm now building links for my new site and I wonder how long will it take while I see a rise in the SERP of my site?

To put it simply, it can take an infinity ... Google may never count 100% of the links pointing to your site. Links are recognized by Google on an ongoing, constant basis and your SERP positions may be affected effective upon Google's discovery of the link(s) although Google may not update links but about four times a year. The quality (relevancy, trust factor, etc.) of the links will have a lot to do with when, how, and to what extent the link will weigh into your site's ranking.

While you're waiting for links to be recognized, take effect, and be updated, put your focus on your site's content and its link building campaign and the SERP will happen in good time.

    Good luck and happy rankings!

Well, that's pretty normal considering the fact that some sites are more powerful than other and Google visits them more often.
It might take up to 3-4 weeks for Google to find all your backlinks. To speed up the process you can social bookmark them ;)

That depends not only on your link building efforts but on the competition in that particular niche. Higher competition the longer it takes to rise in the SERP.
The SERP of a brand new site could fluctuate quite a bit. Sometimes I see changes even a few hours later (after doing link building).
You should see results in 1-2 weeks sometimes even sooner... Depends on your link building & SEO skills obviously :)

Yes, when I start a new project I see results a few weeks later. Maybe not first page, but improvement - yes. It depends on the competition obviously.
3 months and still no progress? You're either in the casino online niche or not doing something right.

Most of the links should get indexed within a month.

It depends on quality of your site. If your site has many relevant and unique information it'd be better for google to index your links

When I was doing seo it took like 2 weeks. During that time the rank of my page in the serp was changing almost every single day. Now I am in the top 10 so I don't need to worry too much haha.

If the quality of the page where your link is accommodated, is the best. I hope you will see the change from next day on your result. If the page is poor in google point of view, it may take long

Doesn't it depend on how quickly the site containing your link is crawled? Digital point links can show up in google in a matter of hours.

It takes around 3-6 months for a site to show it's full potential so be patient.

Normally if you are going for free submission it will take like 3 to 4 weeks in case of maximum sites. Many others take much more time like 6 to 7 weeks to validate your submission and make it live. In case you are going for reciprocal submission they took maximum 3 to 4 days to complete the checking and make it live.
And if you want to be a premium member then in maximum case they took only 2 days to make your link live.
Best of luck for your submission.

its a bit of a how longs a piece of string question, as it depends how often the linking page is re-indexed, which in turn depends on the indexing page. A big news site will be indexed ever hour or so, a small tea shops website in the middle of no-where could take 6 months to re-index.

if you post a link on popular sites like prlog that it can happen in minutes and if you post a link on a forum thread from the year 2001 than it can take few months...

This can be really random, you can see your search rank update right away or it could take a week. You should see effects in 1-2 weeks.
