Hi. Of late I've been doing much needed updates to my site. I've also been 'cribbing' ideas from other, similar sites. I noticed on one such site, that many links in a 'sidebar' pointed to THAT sites homepage & opened the same homepage in a new tab I'm not considering doing this, but am curious to know if there is a reason or benefit to making such links Thanks.
No, that's absolutely pointless and has no benefit at all unless he is selling something on the homepage and wants to explicitly direct his visitors to it from some other internal page. Normally there's always 1 link pointing to the homepage from any internal page from within a site and this one link on the header is more than needed.
It's probably a vain and futile attempt to rank a more diverse set of keyword terms and phrases to his root domain and opening them up in separate tabs is just annoying and will drive away what few visitors the site may enjoy.
I must admit it annoyed me, as I was just having a look around & could'nt work out why all the links pointed to the homepage & then noticed I had 5 extra tabs open lol. My 'cribbing' was just as that site has always remained 1 rank ahead of mine & 99% of the time is one or two places higher than mine after a search & wondered if this was a reason. Clearly not, thanks for the quick replies.
