How to check how many unique visitors I get?

Discussion in 'Blogging' started by coykiesaol, Nov 1, 2010.

    Hey everyone!
I'm extremely new to this site, and have no idea where this goes. I'm also extremely new to the world of blogging, so I apologize for my lack of knowledge. I won't post my blog since I'm not too familiar with the rules.
I was just wondering if there was a way to check how many unique visitors I get each day/week/month??
I use wordpress for my blog, and I use the WordPress.com Stats Plug-in. I'm not sure if any other information is needed.
    Thanks for any help.

You can use, Google analytics (it is free and available for all websites, including blogspot and wordpress.com) or if you have a selfhosted blog, use your cPanel option (however i think they are not so accurate).

I use cPanel, StatCounter and Analytics. You should try it too. Just copy and paste the code into your blog.

like evryone else said, use google analytics and copy paste their code to your footer, or use a google analytics WP Plugin. If you have issues with google use something like http://hitstatcounter.com/ tat also got a WP Plugin.

I am using google analytics and hostgator cpanel. But they show different numbers of visitiors. I created a new blog and google shows just couple of visits and hostgator shows many more. To which one can I believe? Or should I put event third counter on the page?

The problem you will have is that it is difficult to define "unique visitors". How does one define "unique". Google Analytics and many other tools uses cookies. Others may us IP address. If a visitor does allow cookies or the cookie changes or doesn't allow javascript, then the information will be inaccurate and different between tools.

I use Google Analytics to get an approximation. I also use Quantcast to get a feel of how I am doing versus my peers. Both use Javascript and cookies so they will be different from AW-Stats.

I prefer google analytics. A lot of function you can use, track your visitor who come from search engine, referral sites, etc. It's good and free

Stay away from Statpress. It slows down your site too much and the figures are unreliable in my experience.

I use both Statcounter and Google Analytics. Both will show uniques.
