Has anyone put together a spreadsheet? I'll do it, if everyone will say their alexa rank and their Unique Visitors daily, and I'll keep it online for people to see.
It really depends on the website. If website has anything to do with web/seo/IT/site design/etc, meaning people visiting this site actually heard about alexa and belong to the public that install alexa toolbar, then this site will have high alexa rank and relatively low traffic, and vise versa. For example: itunes.com has alexa rank 43k and around 8 mil daily visits (not unique but still an indicator) http://www.webground.com/website/itunes.com domaintools.com has alexa rank of 187, but only around 800k daily visits http://www.webground.com/website/domaintools.com 10 times less visits for 200 times higher alexa rank. you can make an educated guess that almost 100% of domaintools.com visitors have alexa toolbar installed and almost 100% of itunes.com visitors never heard about alexa.... well, thats IMHO, anyway.
urltrends is good, if you see a godaddy auction, they use urltrends to pull information about the domain that is being auctioned.
alexa rank is a combination of unique hits (visits) and pageviews, so if each visitors views more pages you may need less uniques to acheive the same alexa rank
My site is ranked 49xxx (so pretty close). Entertainment site. I average about 9800 uniques/day. Hope that helps
i would say it can also depend on the niche. e.g. niche - internet marketing/SEO site -> many more of visitors have Alexa toolbar installed than the general population -> you will see better alexa ranking with less visits/page views than with some mainstream site
The alexa data is not very accurate, but it may be getting 3000+ unique visitors for their site/day. Alexa provide Rank according to site's unique visitors.
Who cares about Alexa? It is easily to trick Alexa and do some fraud to end high. So a ranking says not much about the traffic a website generates, at least not reliable...
Alexa rank is not reliable try google analytics. My blog of harddriverecoverytools.blogspot.com is 3,30,908 just do your best work your alexa rank and google rank will also move ups.
I think there would be a correlation between alexa rank to keyword(niche) With all these variations in guestimate traffic in relation to rank I suppose it depends on how popular you keywords are. Then how your site ranks for that term or market. that would explain the differences in traffic between the alexa rank
the alexa rank will also havily depend on niche of the site. for example internet marketing niche -> lots of people use alexa toolbar -> higher rank with the same number of visits
according to Today report of Alexa urltrends.com has following report global Alexa traffic rank of 16,428 average of 2.4 unique pages per day South Africa 4,859 Sri Lanka Flag Sri Lanka 5,063 Indonesia Flag Indonesia 5,477 Australia Flag Australia 7,268 Bulgaria 7,733
Alexa 50k would mean 4000 to 5000 uniques a day. To compare with a competitor's site.. well, you could try the alexa ranking compare at their site and then estimate their traffic that way.
