But I'm an engineer with focus in venture capital who lives and breathes anything tech, understands the markets, can do my own analysis, and had a passion for translating complex conclusions into well written, every day terms that people can jive with.

Now I ask, if you write about technology, will you be able to write better content than that? I know I can't write about web design to save my ass

You will never do well in anything unless you enjoy it. Pick a topic that suits you.

I enjoy the "fun" niche as it's easy to bang out a quick post and enjoy yourself at the same time.

 

Why not write about what you like best, I tried writing in the past about popular stuff but wasn't passionate about it so I failed. I have seen successful sites on dreams, travel, quilting, basically on just about anything, just be patient and followers will come and soon after money.

 

I think sports is best topic to make blog, or if you want to make your own website than you can make in html if you have dynamic website than use asp.net and host your website in shared server. Rest of thinks depends on your topic and design.

Depends on many things. If by "best" mean money, then you should focus on financial blog. Technology would be a great topic to choose because the CPC is quite good too and lots of people reading it. Entertainment is good for bringing lots of traffic but not really good in term of earning (low CPC) but still a good niche to choose considering that it can brings instant traffic once it picked up by Google.

 

I agree with some of the others here. All the topics you've mentioned would make (and have made)for great blogs. I'd just ask you to consider 2 really simple things, before you decide:

1. Are you genuinely interested in the topic?
   -You can start a finance blog, but if you don't have any real interest in the topic, you will probably burn out WAY before you see any real profit. If you blog about something you love, it won't even seem like work. Making money will simply be a fringe benefit!

2. Can you bring anything unique to the table?
   -You don't have to reinvent the wheel, but you should be able to provide some value to the field. Even if it's just your unique perspective. You wouldn't believe how many bland, boring blogs there are out there. If you have a voice and an interesting take, you will be leaps and bounds ahead of 80 percent of the trash in whatever subject you choose.

If you can nail those, I promise you will be able to make your blog profitable.
