Posting Comments on Own Blog

Discussion in 'Search Engine Optimization' started by movepicker, Oct 24, 2010.

I just wondered if anyone knows if I post comments on my own blog articles would it improve SEO, i.e. popularity, page rank etc?

Some articles don't get much traffic so no comments and I thought maybe if I start posting some comments then it might help kick start it....

You should get comments from others.

Adding comments is similar to adding new contents to your existing blog post.
So, it will definitely help in popularity and getting traffic from search engines where your site might be able to rank for some unique set of keywords.

As for page rank, no it won't help.

If you want to increase page rank, the only way is to get more high PR back links which is dofollow.

ok thanks, I just want to make it clear that I'm not asking if getting comments from others will help as I already know that will but what I mean is if I post some comments myself on my own articles would this show Google etc that the article is popular?

For Google, it wont appear popular. For humans it may. many people judge the quality of a blog by the number of comments in each article. If your blog has less than 300-500 visitors a day, it is suggested that you turn off comments

It would help since it will be crawled by search engine bots.

Yeah, you can at least leverage your personal relationships to get your friends, family, and colleagues posting on your personal blog. PageRank is a different beat altogether. The only way to build up PageRank is through back links.

    Commenting on you own blog
    `Will increase you content
`Unique comment also make your content unique
`It can fool visitors who might think this blog is popular and may engage them in commenting.
It is not bad idea to comment on your new blog to make it more popular.

Not sure how ethical that is. It's best to turn off comments rather than go behind it. If you need to add contents, add it to the body text and not the comment section.

Yes, It is not ethical but like in seo, no one follow pure white hat seo technique ( I do never vouch for black hat seo). It just initial work to give a boost to your blogs. But not a recommended and must do work. If you are doing it on a new blog then for me, its not going to harm you anyway.

I think it will add some content as has been said. I don't mean I would do it in way where it is just posting junk, I mean like adding to the original content. Maybe like updates etc so it should be favored by search engines to see new content, updates, activity and then hopfully the general public will then start posting comments anyway. An example of what I mean is this article and you will see the comments below it are adding to the original content and updating the article.

You should avoid to post comments in your own post because it will not be helping you to get good page rank too.

I think it is a good idea to post comments if you are replying to someone's comments. Otherwise I don't see the point to comment on your own article.

Sometimes it can serve to break the ice, once there's a first comment others post... if there's none no one does... can't say I ever did it though

Giving links out from your blog can only decrease your chances of ranking high! But commenting on your own blog will help this is called internal linking.

It is much better for you to responds to comments in your blog ..I prefer it that way rather than putting my own comments in my own blog...In that way you acknowledge them to keep reading your blog
