It means that Copyscape.com thinks your article is unique (enough) from every other article on the internet. Some buyers use Copyscape to see whether you've copied and pasted from another page on the web, not necessarily because they think plagiarism is unethical, but because they don't want to deal with the consequences of plagiarism, e.g. having your site shut down.

I use it because I do not want to pay a writer for work he did not actually do. If I wanted copy/paste articles, I could have just stolen them myself. If I pay someone to write, I expect them to be doing he writing.

I also want content that was researched and written. I do not want content where the "writer" took an article off EZA and re-wrote/spun it until it hit what they thought was an acceptable percentage of uniqueness. If I wanted content spun/re-written I would have hired a spinner/re-writer, not a writer.

For this reason, I have always been leery of (especially lower-priced) writers that make "Copyscape Passed" as one of their top selling points.

For the record, I do think plagiarism is unethical.

    No it doesn't.

It means that copyscape.com, using the google API, haven't managed to find a single 3 word shingle in your text that is currently indexed by Google.

Same thing. You just gave a more technical definition.

That's good to know. I've come across so many webmasters who really don't care.

Another similar tool would be plagium.com and it's free.

True! But, plagium searches for dupes on Yahoo, whereas copyscape searches on Google.

If you have a site and you want to check if your content has been copied, it's free, all you have to do is, type in your site url in the box and it'll do the rest of the work. But if you are a buyer or even a writer, who wants to check, if that particular article is unique or not, than my friend, you are going to have to pay.

Copyscape checks articles you enter into the box and looks all over the web to see if it's copied, after the search it says no resutls found or has links to sites as well as % copied...

I am not sure you can find something indexed in yahoo but not on Google, unless, the webmaster has blocked Google bot
