Does Niche for backlinks is important?

I have started my entertainment forum and already have one Technical blog also. As my forum is new so i am trying to get backlinks. should i add my forum link on blog? Both have different niche

Because It looks more natural.

It isn't uncommon for an entertainment site to link to an entertainment site, but it does look weird when an entertainment site links to something like " Play Casino Online".

Well getting incoming links wouldn't hurt anyway but why folks has been saying it's important to have niche incoming links is just because it seems to Google that relevant sites are linking your website/forum/blog. Few backlinks from relevant domains and moreover with kinda same URL keyword would make you high beneficial.
Like in your case, Tehcnologyblog.com will have high PR juice for incoming links if it is coming from site URL like Technology.com or Techblog.com or Tehcnologynews.com
URL keywords are matching and it is making it sound more relevant yet quality.

SEO is all about relevancy.

Placing a link of a different niche on your blog isn't going to be of any weight BUT if the links is relevant, than Google will give more weight to that relevant link. Hence, irrelevant links would not harm your site BUT make sure you don't do it on mass level.

In short, relevant links have more weight and importance than irrelevant links. @gr8liverpoolfan gave a pretty good example of why that is?

Generally speaking, all back links would be helpful for SERP purpose. Of course, contextual back links with correct anchor text from niche relative sources would be the best one for back linking purpose.

no you shouldn't add you forum link to our blog as google gives preference to relevancy and therefore you should look for similar niche otherwise it may obviously look odd.

both are different you should do blog and forums separately.

 

getting free one way link is good but getting related link is even better.

if any one(not your niche) is linking to your website then its good for you. but if you are also linking to them on your website then it's not so good for your website. never link to unrelated website on your website. this will hurt you in future.
