    the question should be, what's the requirements for your site? what's the estimate number of expected concurrent users of the site?
    once you have those info, it would be easier for us to tell which server/platform will suit to you.

    That list just shows the types of things that you can make a server. A server can be any type that you want, depending on what you install for software. A servers hardware though will dictate how a website performs, along with the network that it is connected to.

    well, if you run python websites, you need the python web server or apache with mod-python

    if you run php, apache is great

    if you run asp, you need IIS

    php with apache is the best combination in my preference

    iTube said it pretty well. Performance is all based on how a server is setup.
