Just wondering is there any hope for .ws domains SEO wise and commercially? Does google like .ws they prefer .com's and .org's more?

.ws is notorious for being one of the worst extensions ever, next to .name :p That would be a big "no", of course. Highly suggest hunting for a .com or .net, even if you have to buy one through a 3rd party negotiator.

the only good thing about .ws is that they show no whois info, its good for offshore stuff therefore, no good for anythin other than that. google doesn't like it much is what i heard. comes pretty cheap though, give it a show

I've seen many ws domains ranking higher then my com lol
So if you manage to do a proper on-site off-site SEO then it's ok :)

But are they ranking for decent terms, or long-tail ones that nobody really searches for?

.ws is a very crap extention. It's only good for strong domain hacks or top keywords, but you ain't gonna hand reg any though.
