Its still a pointless post. If you want to thank someone, give them re or PM them.

    No it isn't.

In my opinion it's OK for the OP of a thread to thank someone who replies with proper input by replying to their post.

It's replying to someone else's thread by saying "thnx for this" which is annoying. Just check out this thread for an example: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=1965167

You are missing the point. It's a completely different situation when it was my own thread. If it was something that someone else had posted and I just wrote "Thanx" then that would be pointless..

Thank you for backing me up and actually understanding the problem at hand

Its still a useless post to anyone. It contributed nothing of value to the thread.

Like your posts on this thread are valuable? It's called being polite in my own thread and this is exactly why we should have a thanks button.

That's a really great idea. I've seen this feature on other forums.

You can give well earned "Thanks" to members through the reputation system ([IMG]) found on the lower left side of every posts. This is also considered to be the "Thank-you-button" you are referring to.

Criticizing a DigitalPoint admin . Not one of the brightest actions one can take . Especially when your posts where comprised of just one sentence .

The reputation system exist just to prevent the "thanks" post . It won't bite if you to use it .

    In an ideal world maybe,
but unfortunately buttons don't add to a users post count, so they tend to do diddly squat.

Here's one of my favorite "thank you, nice info" posters. (or is it a bot?)

We don't have bots on DP but we have human robots from China , India , Nigeria and a lot more countries that flood this beautiful website just to be able to post in BST . Just report the hell out of them usually in max 48 hours (usually is ~24h) mods can take care of spammers .
