I got to say that list building is the best way to get repeat business if it is done correctly, well that is my opinion anyway.
I believe search engine marketing is the most effective method of internet. Cause all the visitor you will get are targeted, that means they are looking for something that is related to your website. also search engine traffic converts better than any other method.
A combination of three things works for me. I start with articles, then work on backlinking; but as that takes time, I get instant traffic via PPC. And PPC also allows me to test headlines, page design, etc. But I cap my PPC at a very low daily budget. PPC gives me good testing data, which I then incorporate on site as I try building traffic via SEO and articles...
Search marketing, but with a very short tail. Rather than "sports jerseys" or "Vikings Jerseys", go right for the specific athlete. In this case, one would think Brett Favre....but maybe not this week, considering the latest rumor mill. A long tail will get tons of untargeted traffic and cost you a fortune.
It really depends on the product, for example if you site is selling a laptop, then you can focus on electronic related blogs to post your links, and electronic related articles directories to post your articles

That's easy. It's list building. I saw drastic results in my income just weeks after I started building a targeted email marketing list.
A combination of both PPC and SEO traffic is the best. I use PPC at the very beginning; it gives me great fast traffic that I use to test things like headlines, opt in rates, etc. Then, while the PPC is running, I start working on organic SEO traffic from articles, videos, backlinking, and RSS feeds. Once I get the results from PPC testing, I make the page as content heavy as possible, and SEO traffic slowly builds over the first two months. But remember, keyword research at the very beginning is key....
The best method is free method. PPC is very expensive and SEO is not consistent. Free method is the best
Yes, you should always build a list. whether you're using ppv, ppc, seo or any other method it's good to build your list. Of course if you're testing you can skip list building until you get you results of the test. nd even then, depending on what you are testing, it still may require you to use an optin. But yes, build that list! : )
