    1) Forum Participation with Signature Links
    2) Blog Posting
    3) Blog Commenting (Do Follow)
    4) Article Submission
    5) Directory/Niche/Business Submissions
    6) Social Bookmarking (Do Follow)
    7) Press Release
    8) Social Media Optimization

    I feel targeting long tail keywords is better.. Since the website will be in SERP for both small keywords and long keywords too.
