If I wanted to rank in say Kitchen Renos Would it be okay to buy a domain called cheapkitchenrenos.com Would the word cheap hurt the SEO on the URL ranking?
It would not be as effective as kitchenrenos.com, but it wouldn't really hurt your chances. Having the keyword in the domain is certainly helpful as Google heavily favors the homepages of keyword domains for the matching keywords.
I guess what I'm not sure about is if Google will see it as "cheap kitchen renos" or if they will pick up on the kitchenrenos part and match it with my first keyword. I want to rank on KitchenRenos but the domain is not open so I wanted to add a word to the front and wanted to make sure if Google cared about extra words in the domain.
i personally dont suggest to add those word like cheap, best etc in front the keyword if the keyword you looking is not available, better add "i" in front, make it ikitchenrenos
It won't hurt, as at the same time you are targeting the "cheap Kitchen Renos" long tail. But as chris-tew, points out, it would not be as effective as kitchenrenos.com.
I would suggest actually adding the aditional word after not before google seems to give higher importance to the first words in a title and very may for address as well.
Ya I wasn't going to add the word Cheap but it was a sample. I wanted to make sure that if the domain name I was looking for was taken then would it hurt me SEO wise if I added additional words to the domain. I like the idea of adding a single letter to the domain name and if possible adding an S would be good but as long as having something like HotCars.com would rank on SEO for "Hot Car" and not "Hot Cars"
it would rank for both hot car and hot cars Google considers them both variations of hot car you can see this if you go into webmaster tools and look at your key words. next to some it will say 2 variations and if you click it shows you the variations of the key word they found on your site and the number of times for each one. this is why i belive it is good to add it to the tail rather then the front of the words.
Why add "i"? It's OK to do this if people are always going to be following hyperlinks to the site - which is what searching people would do. But what about people who actually type the URL? How would they know that the URL starts with an "i"? Or am I missing something?
It is not bad ... If you are using keywords then you will get high ranking.. So For both Kitchen Renos and Cheap Kitchen Renos you will keep getting visitors..
It will not hurt you, but help you rank for the keywords in the url, but i seriously would not add the word cheap to my url no matter what, just a personal opinion.
