So I wrote a script and started selling it 716 days ago according to DP records. Before the weekend I found someone asking for and offering the script. The person asking for it seems to have been banned for awhile now, so I sent a PM to the person offering it. I kid you not, they tried to sell me a copy of my own script for double my original asking price, 2 years after the script was written. I'm not sure whether to be pissed off, or proud that my scripts apparently get more valuable with age unlike most technology. lol
Well you should root them out for copyright . But then again maybe having fanboys is not such a bad thing lol . What was the script suppose to do ?
So now the guy thinks I'm trying to scam him The funny thing here is the thread that lead me to them also leads to the original demo for the script that is on a domain name owned by me and has been owned by me since September 2008.
Now that they can't explain it away they want to get rude and offensive. lol Here's the first PM I sent them, To which I received a very simple one word "yes" reply. They had to have checked out the thread and looked at the script to know what I was talking about. If they didn't, then they were telling me they had something they had no idea whether they had it or not. At this point I thought they realized I was the author of the script, so I asked more specifically to which I get this in response So I inquire further and get this At this point, there's no reason for any confusion here. I asked for something that they either had to know what I was asking for, or they were just going to try and sell me whatever they had regardless of whether it's what I was asking for. Either way I'm getting screwed here. Back to their latest PM, how does someone think I'm referring to their site sell thread when I very specifically ask for a script and also link directly to a thread with two posts in it. There's nothing in that thread to leave any room for confusion. It's as straight forward as it gets.
reminds me a joke told by Eric Schmidt, one day a SEO company send Google an email, and said, your website's design is not good enough, they can help make the website more cater for Google's requests. Lol~
Scripts are hard to sell because its relatively easy to turn around and resell it. Its a good idea to spend some time on some copy protection that will prevent casual copying. Sometimes you have to get creative with how you do it.
I don't waste my time with all of that DRM jazz. It takes me less time to find a way to bypass my own protection schemes after a good night's sleep than it does to come up with and implement the thing in the first place. I think when the whole US recession thing is actually over with, all of the "open source" companies will have sold out to big money, it will dawn on people that security by obscurity actually works when the software isn't distributed to millions of systems on multiple competing networks, and we can all get back to writing custom software for individual entities without needing to worry about whether someone resells the software because with the opensource hippies gone for awhile everyone can charge real prices.
