I really hope that Neteller does not begin to prohibit gambling transactions for US account holders.

The bill bans US finacial institutions from sending money to gambling companies. It does not expressly forbid online gambling and makes no mention of poker whatsoever. US citizens can still send money to foreign companies who in turn can trasfer the money to gaming companies.

It's a shame that no other forms of payment exist! Since credit cards are the only way to send money, online gambling sites are screwed!

Wouldn't it be nice if there existed the technology to say... I don't know... Go to the post office - give them money - and then be given a transferable (monetary) instrument whereby the recipient of said instrument could go to his post office and be given something of value in exchange...

Perhaps a bank could offer a similar service - you could call it, perhaps, a cheque of the cashier...

Until these futuristic technologies come to pass (monetary instruments soooo advanced could be decades away) - the online gaming industry will have no way of accepting payment from their customers. They might as well shut down right now...

There's always a work-around (such as neteller etc), this is just another piece of feel-good legislation politicians use to boost their popularity within their conservative groups.

Any of you with gambling sites/domains that are concerned, feel free to contact me - I'll gladly take them off your hands

This isn't that big of a deal if you followed the law to begin with. The law has always stated that online gambling websites are illegal in the usa. Everyone decided to break that law so they had to take it to the next level.

    I just got this from 888.com --

    Dear Affiliate,

As you may have heard, the United States Congress has passed a law barring US based individuals from sending funds to online gaming sites. The new legislation is expected to come into force shortly.

In light of these considerations, the 888.com group has concluded that it is appropriate to suspend participation by U.S. based customers in our online poker and online casino products. As of today, we will not allow real money registrations of new U.S. based customers.

In light of these changes we urge you to focus your activities as a member of the 888.com Affiliate Program only towards non U.S. based individuals. In the coming days we will offer tools that will enable you to target traffic by country. Any U.S. based individuals referred by you to our Internet sites will not be permitted to open new real money accounts and you will therefore not be able to receive any commissions in relation to such persons. Please note that there are no new restrictions under the new law which prevents you from promoting the 888 brands to non-US players. Please contact us at **@*** or your account manager for further details.

In recent years the 888.com group has pursued a strategy of building its brand and business in markets outside the U.S. In the month of September approximately 65% of first time depositors (Real New Players) recruited by our affiliates were non-U.S. based.

The 888.com group remains a viable and profitable business and looks forward to pursuing growth opportunities in its international markets with continued vigor. We look forward to continuing working with you to help us grow in these international markets.

    Sincerely,

    888.com
    Affiliate Program

Actually Neteller according to their press release expects to be significantly impacted by the ban as it applies to their US facing business. Meaning their going to stop processing transactions for US customers when the law is passed rather the face litigation from the US Govt.

Nonetheless, I don't doubt that some enterprising company will come up with a legal workaround.

well, smaller places may be willing to accept person to person Western Unions from US citizens but I can assure you the medium and large ones will not -- too much risk for them. I am sure there are Govt agents just waiting to start trying this once the law is passed. " Agent John Smith on this date western unioned $250 to Joe Blow of ABC Sports betting". Believe me, this is how they work.

I would expect many small groups to try this outide of the US but it will be unregulated and there is a great chance that someday they will simpy run off with everyones money.

No big company will do this because the US will move against them in their home country or charge their corporate officers in US federal court the way they did Bet on Sports.
