You should first concentrate on promoting the site and then observe the traffic. Online shopping is a highly competitive niche and demands a lot of work.

When you start promoting your site the traffic will be increased..You can start with social bookmarking that will increase the back links and traffic will be increased..Before starting you should have all the marketing information related to your product..

Online shopping - can you tell what the product your site sell? Anyhow buying traffic is worth full if it is from real source and particular targeted traffic. These source sources like google Adwords, Msn Adcenter ,yahoo publishers, chitika, adbrite, bidvertiser etc are give you quality traffic if you want to buy and if you want traffic by promotion then you should focus on search engines by optimizing the contents of your sites.it does helpful to get sales if you use google ppc because they have lot of publishers.

Are you selling something that can be turned into an affiliate offer, or are you just using existing affiliate offers?

I can't separate traffic from promotion. Generating traffic is promotion.

Its how you report it and also how long. These things take time. Its not a sprint.

Do you a list? Offer something for free after they join your list such as aweber.

I do like what the one commenter said, work on your product... But you can have the best product in the world, without traffic, you'll have nothing.

You get traffic by promoting your site.

Easy ways are directory submissions, posting on classified ad sites, ad boards, and so forth.

Then promote on forums using signature link.
And creating threads about your site (without spamming forums).

Do link exchanges if you can or want.

Then you get into paid ways.
Pay webmasters to put your anchor text and link on their sites.
    Pay for blog posts.
    Much more.
