    Hi Guys,

If you don't have access to a specific website but you still need to push it on the SERPs for Google UK. What is the best practice?

Note: the website is already ranking on Google.com, but not on Google UK

As you know, almost all websites these days have their links configured as "nofollow". So, your answer is easier said than done. I'm looking for a more specific/helpful tips that you know they work not the standard "get backlinks from UK websites" answer. thanks again for your reply though.

thanks for the reply. If I wanted to increase the rank for my website for a keyword like "roses" in the Google UK only search engine. Do you know what the effect of using "roses uk" as my backlink anchor text instead of just "roses" on my ranking on Google.co.uk?

you see, I'm already ranking for a good keyword in Google.com, but for the same keyword in Google.co.uk, I'm on 3rd page. That's why I need to target Google.co.uk , not just increase my ranking everywhere because I'm already ranking in Google.com

I hope this explains my situation.

    Hi

If you are ranking on the 3rd place for google.com i would concentrate on ensuring that the visitors are getting coverted better than the sites that are ranking position number 1.

I did this for a client recently, first proved that the visitors that were searching for a keyword that he was not first were infact visiting his site. Then once we ensured his site converted better then he started getting more enquiries.

There are many things you can do to encourage local search engines to index you for desired keywords, Get backlinks from .co.uk with your anchor text , get backlinks from UK hosted website is a couple of them etc But are you specifically targeting the UK niche or can your site be used internationally , I.e does it sell a product for UK people or does it offer a service that UK people would be interested in ? With out knowing what type of business you are running and what website you are doing it with its really hard to be specific in what you are trying to achieve.

Find out the good quality back links on the .co.uk domains and start your work by doing the competitor back link analysis.

Thanks guys for the reply. Unfortunately, the website I'm trying to optimize is international, but we'd like to increase our ranking in the UK specifically because it looks like a good market. That's why I'm asking.

My theory is based on the fact that Google is putting a lot of weight on backlinks to a website and their anchor text of course. So, I thought that Google would definitely have something in its algorithm to recognize location-specific queries. For instance, if the anchor text for a backlink to a website is something like "UK Roses", it'd have a totally different meaning to Google than just "Roses". I believe that "Roses" would push the website on Google.com, but it'll have a slight effect on Google.co.uk. Now, if Google bot has encountered the anchor "UK Roses", it'll recognize that the target website is for UK and hence, will rank it for the keyword "Roses" in Google.co.uk plus the keyword "UK Roses" in Google.com.

Of course this is just a theory that I've not tested. It'd be great if someone here can confirm if this is true or not.

So, the only solution is to get a .co.uk domain? I don't think this is right. I know for a fact the a normal domain (.com/.net) would rank in Google.co.uk just fine. That's what I'm after, so, if anyone knows, please tell me.

It is local database of Google search engine you should promote to Google.com only and all local search engines will give some traffics or ranking if you are strong on Google.com. for example: search the keyword "granite slabs" without quote, you will find #11 and #16 on Google.com or Google.co.uk
I think you have learned all from example.

You can do directory submission with UK directory sites and also do link exchange with relevant UK sites.

thanks guys... I'll look for uk directories. Do you have a list of directories that will approve links quickly? also, article directories? If anyone has a list, please show us. Just keep in mind it has to be .co.uk... not the normal directories.

    thanks again.
