    It can if done properly, and if the capacity exists for an increase in search traffic. One site I'm working on has tripled it's traffic in 7 months, and 65% of that is organic search traffic. It's also targeted traffic that is engaging with the site, and completing conversions.

    Lots of people do it, but it doesn't necessarily mean lots of people are good at it :) If done correctly, SEO can significantly increase organic traffic and sales, but if you're competing for big keywords its going to be a tough job.
