Skype would be cheapest if you are calling to US, but it is not going to cheap if you are calling to India. Try to find some local indian VOIP providers, those would be cheaper than Skype or other US SIP phones.

    SKYPE Is the only solution

Alternately you can call using Vodafone ( India ) with a promo recharge and call charges are around 3.99 INR / minute

Depend if you refer to PC to PC then skype will do.

If you refer to Phone to Phone then skype will sucks your money like vampire.

    Instead go with e-numx.

I'm not sure if those people who's saying Skype is the cheapest even know the actual Skype rates for calling India.

Skype rates to India is 10.6c per minute. Onesuite calling card is even cheaper at 8c per minute and it's even lower at 7.5c when using its VoIP service.

I think the cheapest I've seen was around 5 or 4 cents per minute but I doubt the quality of the service for that cheap. Most of the time, you'll get what you pay for and you'll end up using up more minutes because you can hardly understand each other or you need call twice or three times because of line cuts. Although the long distance service I'm using isn't the cheapest, I am pretty much satisfied with Onesuite call quality and they have 24/7 phone support for any concern regarding my account.

The best way is uVOIPit. You can call for $0.015 per minute. Thats 1.5 cents. I do it daily and it saves alot of money. Its both ways as well.

    try it out

Skype is expensive and lousy audio quality. You can make unlimited calls to the USA for free using the "Call phone" widget on the left side of the main window on gmail.com.

Onesuite just lowered their rates and now it's only 2 cents to call India.

I'm waiting for the time where all countries is only 1 cent per minute :)
