facebook disallowing friend request

Discussion in 'Facebook' started by dragons5, Sep 27, 2010.

I have been a faithful facebook user since it opened up to other colleges. I own several applications and I maintain tons of 'pages'.

Recently I was out at a bar and met a girl. Instead of giving me her number she grabbed my phone and tried to find herself on facebook to have me add her. She clicked add like 3 times and nothing worked, so I figured I would add her when I got home. I tried in the morning from my pc and received a message from facebook saying that the friend request was disallowed. she doesn't allow messages to be sent either...

anyone have insights on this? I haven't sent a friend request in months.

Facebook has the best privacy settings available in terms of tweaking, she may have set hers so noone can add her and she must add them

I think it's about privacy setting in her account

I have the same issue, but I've found a working solution: go to your FB profile, change your gender to female and save. Now send a friend request to that girl and it will work. After your request is sent, go back to your profile and switch your gender back to male.

Apparently, it has something to do with spam protection on FB.

    NP, your welcome :)

I was in the same situation few days ago, and after googling for hours I've stumbled upon this "fix". I'm glad it helps, and I hope it will help other people too :)

ask your friend to change privacy setting, so you can add her

well now a days i think that facebook has tightened the privacy because of high spamming. i was also trying to add a friend and it gave me an option that you cannot add this friend because you don't know each other blah blah blah... i think we can add the ones with whom we have mutual friends....

Basically an "auto-reject" for pending friendships. Shouldn't bee too hard.

This should kind of tell you NEVER to see this girl again.

but yes, as others have said, privacy. you can emit yourself from ALL search results if you wish

It makes sense, because of privacy control!

It is possible that she has blocked ppl to write to her or send her frend requests. U can try one thing write a complain to the webmaster of facebuk. If it is sumthing else it will be sorted in hours.

    Thanks...

just so everyone knows the trick mentioned earlier worked. i tried it again with a co-worker who has her settings high and found the same thing. I will keep experimenting to find the exact cause.

It is odd that facebook would do this but not unforseen completely. They don't allow you to search the site or even your own friends by gender. Likely a response to mitigate the porn bots that plagued MySpace.
