Hi, I was playing around with buddypress and it feels cool. Now I was thinking of using wpmu and integrate with buddypress. Is it difficult to install wp mu? Thanks in advance
I just noticed that they say WPMU is part of wordpress project, meaning its available in wordpress 3.1 is that true?
wpmu stands for wordpress multi-user, its what is used on wordpress.com for the free wordpress blogs. i think it runs on its own code but it usually pretty close to the latest core version of wordpress just with a few mods. when i used wpmu the main problem i had was setting up the wildcard dns setting so that you can have blog.site.com rather than site.com/blog but that will all depend on your host etc. since wmpu is no longer a single project the install is pretty simple, wordpress have it listed in their codex as creating a network > http://codex.wordpress.org/Create_A_Network
Hi, thanks for the answer repped+ Just another q though, when you say with several mods what do you mean?
Hard is relative to the user. It's not hard for me. Most people who are familiar with WordPress that will take the time to read the Doc's will find it to be very manageable.
mods as in a few extra files and extra backend menus, i would think of them as pre-installed plugins that let you control what themes new blogs can use, whether or not people can register new blogs and a menu to control all hosted blogs. heres some comparisons http://wordpress.jdwebdev.com/blog/wp-vs-mu/
yes Open up wp-config.php and add this line above where it says /* That's all, stop editing! Happy blogging. */: i would recommend that you read http://codex.wordpress.org/Create_A_Network first tho
Great, thanks a bunch, now I only need to upgrade my wordpress manually. I dunno but whenever I update auto it'll fail Cheerio
Only thing bad about WP-MU is that a lot of plugins loose their functionality e.g. Google sitemap generator.
however there are also quite a few wpmu only plugins or plugins that have been modified to work on wpmu http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/search.php?q=wpmu&sort=
