It depends on how exciting and new it is. Word of mouth can spread quickly with something novel and entertaining. All it takes is for work to get to the news networks. Once one of them picks it up, it can explode rapidly. I wouldn't hold me breath waiting for word of mouth to get out though...It could be a long wait.
