I'm just wondering how long it takes for an SEO to have a brand new website rank in google for their top keyword. My top keyword has a monthly search of 110,000 When I started optimizing the site, its nowhere to be found in google. But now, its on the 4th page after just 1 and a half months and I'm really happy about it. So, how long does it normally take you to rank?
It has taken me up to six months to get the #1 listing, however, there are keywords that I know will never make #1 because they compete with .gov or I'd be SEO'ing against companies that pay millions to be at the top spot (such as Yahoo! Realty, Realtor.com, etc.). I focus on Google Places rankings in the 7-box.
It depends on the competition of a particular keyword and how you work on the same keyword. If you do proper and quality work on the same, you can get your site on 1st page within 3-4 months. It requires regular maintenance to keep your site on 1st page.
the 110,000 searches has no merit on the competition. you should check the top 10 for that keyword and see how many links each site has to the ranked page. but to answer your question it completly takes time. one of my keywords has taken 3 years while another site 4 days.
Depending on how competitive the keyword is ...i've been able to rank for many long tail keywords in a matter of weeks. A good backlinking strategy typically works well for me.
I have had my site for a little over 3 months and I am number 3 in google. So maybe before 6 months I will be number 1
