Why does google drop backlinks?

    Hello i had about 300 backlinks on Google and now i have like 100, I even checked some of the backlinks i know that were there and they still exist but Google dropped them for some reason, can anyone tell me why? also how often does Google update page rank?

    it might those pages where your site is still showing has been spammed and dropped in ranking. so google no more bothered about links on those pages.

    Google used to drop backlink that is not related or relevant to the content of your site.

    You will find this happens all the time. Google could go back to the original backlinks and re-crawl. Could not be relevant anymore?! Or have you recently done a site audit?!

    Google only consider quality and relevant back links. Probably others are not quality links and that's why they are dropped.

    If it's irrelevant, more than likely it will be dropped.

    Other than that, I would try going for backlinks that you can really rank for.

    Google consider only quality back links. So, when your links loose quality, in next Google update they are dropped by google

    back links is not the factor that you should worried about.. you should be worrying about your drop in ranking. so even reducing backlinks does not effect your current ranking , then do not bother about those back links...
