It is realistic, I am almost there and officially started putting a full time effort into this in mid April of 2006. But, it is not easy. I've been putting in a ton of hours since I've started, and only recently have started slacking on the weekends. But, I think and hope it will be worth it. I have just recently hit the $50/day mark and am very thrilled about it. How great is it to sit around and watch football all day and find that your blogs have been working for you
    during that time? :D

Anyway, the best advice I can give is to read Darren's blog at:

    http://www.problogger.net

Other than that, just blog your ass off, and use Wordpress for your blog platform

An interesting thread. I am struggling with making money from 2 blogs at the moment, but its the magic balance -

I have 6 sites to finish then I will have my package ready for war. But its what to do and when, my blogging at the mement is somthing to do when I am board with tweaking the new sites, then theres liniking, then looking for new seo ideas, then replying in forums and blogs and it goes on.

I vote for 30 hr days!!

Thanks for the great feedback sixfigureblogger :)
My big challenge then is going to be fitting it in around family and work.
Like the last three days, I've been starting at 5am and not gotten finished my "other-stuff" till 10:30pm before I even get to my computer !

    If you have the time to reply, I'll just to pick up on a couple of your comments;

    That's encouraging - thanks

When you say you've gone "full-time" since April, some questions spring to mind.
    • Are you no longer working another income (i.e. you're living off $50/day)?
    • How many hrs/day is your "full-time"
    • How much time were you investing before going "full-time"
    • How long were you blogging before going "full-time"
Thanks a heap for those three pieces of advice ! :)
    Problogger is GREAT for me for two reasons;
    1. I'm also an Aussie so problogger's site is very geographically relevant
    2. He explains SOoooo much for noobies like me (AND for advanced bloggers).
    Thanks for the site-ref.

One final question: (then I'll leave you alone :D )
Your main reason for using Wordpress rather than Blogger.com would be what ????

Thanks again for your time and help.

    Hi dct
I'm still here but I'm taking your advice on absorbing the pro-blogger stuff at the moment.
Thank you for your generous offer re pointers/tips. [IMG]
I don't expect I'd demand a lot of your time, just an occassional pointer here or there and mabe some critique of my blogging till I get the hang of it.
On the issue of mentoring-for-nothing I definitely do NOT expect that service for free [IMG] and would be quite happy to discuss a proposal with you privately if you are interested.

Content is what you should be striving for right now. Like I said before, focus on your niche and provide content that your competitors can't. You need to seperate yourself from the pack and truly offer something of value to your visitors.

I started blogging nearly a year ago with two blogspot blogs. After doing it for about three months I managed to make around $60. I invested the money on a domain + hosting and started using WP. Currently I have a blog that averages about 6 to 7 thousand visitors month and my revenue is about $18 month.

So here is what I say:

    1) PEOPLE TALK A LOT OF CRAP
    2) PEOPLE LIKE TO BOAST
    3) DON’T BELIEVE EVERYTHING YOU READ
    4) MOST WEBMASRTERS ON DP DON’T MAKE MORE THAN $50 MONTH FROM THEIR SITES

You can make a lot of money blogging but in most cases I doubt a blogger makes more than $1 with their blogs.

Sorry it's not worked out for you, with that sort of traffic I'd expect you to be able to make more than $18

Some people do, but you'll find a lot of members here do genuinesly try to help others.

Again some people probably do but I reckon most don't though the people that make your third point valid probably do.

    Totally agree there

That's probably true IMO (though I don't really know and am just guessing), there are 10,000s of members here, many will make very little monthly income (sub $50), others will make modest incomes (< 10K$) whilst there are a few high rollers in the $100k+ bracket and obviously others in between
Most people don't make a lot of money blogging but a lot of money is relative anyway, a lot to me may be very little to you. I reckon most bloggers make more than a $1 and if not they won't be blogging for very long.

I must add that I too would expect more than $18 from those visitor levels, I do that a week from my 2 blogs and I must say that I get paid by google every month for my sites.

This makes me remember a thread we had here on DP a few months ago in the Directories section. The thread was about how many visitors webmasters would get on there respective Directories per month. I saw all sorts of numbers but when finally a member asked if everyone was being honest many admitted that they were actually exaggerating a bit. Why? I don’t know… I’ve seen a many people saying they earn thousands per day on there blogs but still little or no proof…

Why can't you do both? If you replace the word blog with business and walk into any possible investors office and say something like that, they will crack up laughing at you as they escort you out the door.

Personally, I feel as though the major reason that most people fail at making money from their blogs is becasue the don't look at them as microbusinesses which, like any other business, need a business plan. If you don't have profitability (making in money) in mind along with timelines for how you will achieve it, you are doomed before you ever get started.

A couple of journalism and writing courses can't hurt either.
