How to turn a dead site into a popular site?

I've noticed that all websites started by amateurs that become popular were all founded BEFORE google appearance.

Is it even possible for an amateur to transform his/her dead site into a popular site under google dominance of all markets?

 

Sure, with popular content that spreads over other channels.

 

Originality is the key.

 

Also usability is key. You want your users to come on your site and feel like they know how to use it. If you dont do that then users will come on then leave because it doesn't feel right to them.

i think that besides making your website super cool with lots of great original content, you should also promote it. and that could be whole other subject in itself.

From my point of view it is doable . But you have to take into consideration if that website has a negative reputation . If you will have any legal problems and if the profit is worth the effort .

The problem is that what you may think its original may be spread all over the web and you don't even know about it...

 

It's only difficult if you have a limited imagination Every website I've sold thus far has been unique. I've sold games, search engines, marketing software and other miscellaneous small software and scripts.

i spent a lot of time developing my website. i made sure i had an original idea and spent time researching the web to check no one else had done what i was doing. Like others said, Originality is a big part of it.

 

It's possible only if you work hard on that website. You/your-team must update that website everyday with fresh and unique contents. Also you/your-team must publish those contents all over the internet through social bookmarking, social networking platforms, forums, blogs, pres release, paid articles, guests blogging, guest comments etc everyday. Do not engage in blackhat tricks or spamming. Make site so SEO friendly by obeying all the instructions and recommendations for websites given by search engines like Google. Keep on doing this, you can see a great magic within a month!..

 

Figure out a way to piss off Glen Beck. You'll have more visitors than you know what to do with in no time flat.

Half of this will only work if one already has a good traffic source to start with...starting from 0 and putting in social networks does it nothing but being lost in the darkness of a gigantic database... I believe there's no such thing as original content anymore and internet game is for people who started 3, 4 years ago, not for ppl starting from 0 NOW!!! INTERNET is occupied, the newbies gtfo
No i dont have original content, nobody does, your best bet is to play with unoriginal content, thus its nearly impossible to make it out of the dark. Unless a website about mar's worms is a good deal, maybe nasa will give me a helping hand on this
