Use Google Alert to drive targeted traffic to your site

In general there are two types of traffic - free and paid. Both cost something. Free traffic methods usually cost TIME. Paid traffic methods obviously cost money. Both have their pluses and minuses.

Here is a free traffic tip:

Use Google Alert to drive traffic to your site.
Go to google.com/alerts and Google will email you any time any site has a new or updated page indexed in Google with a specific keyword or keyword phrase.

You can do this for the whole Internet. You can also do this for specific sites - such as forums. So you can have a Google Alert sent to you once a day from a specific forum any time a topic has been created with certain keywords. Then you can respond JUST to those topics (= targeted traffic to your site).

Ideally the topics should be stuff you can easily respond to without having to do research and that are somewhat related to whatever you're offering on your website.

Its actually extremely simple to do it. All you need is a gmail account 8email account from google). Then go to: google.com/alerts and set up your alerts.

So let me get this straight. You set up alerts for your niche and when ever a site with your niche comes up google will alert you? But how do you get the traffic? I am not understanding.

If you set this up correctly, Google alert will send you links to for instance forums where you keywords (alerts) have been posted. Then you access the forum or whatever it is and post your message there. The point is that you dont have to search for this yourself. let google alert do the search job for you, and you do the targeted posting which hopefully leads to targeted traffic to your site.

There's a real good video course called Google Traffic Pump that teaches all about how to get good keyword terms to use Google Alerts to get traffic. It just shows you how to isolate certain terms that you can then find targeted traffic from the results.

Great advice webar2007, I also use google alerts to notify me when my articles appear on other websites. Its great for checking if people are backlinking to your articles to your website or just stealing your content.

hey thanks for that advice! I didn't think to alert a specific topic in which i could respond to. I just had all topics which flooded my inbox :(

How does someone get their websites to show up in the alert itself? I've ranked first page of google for weeks at a time and never saw my site show up in google alerts..
