Do bad reviews help a company

It borders on philosophy, but do bad reviews actually help or hurt a company that's willing to listen to their reviews?

Short-term they obviously hurt a company if other people read the review and make their buying decision based on it.

But I want to dig a little deeper into this thought thread.

Most times when a business owner does something a customer didn't like, the business owner will never know because the customer never comes back and never says anything.

That's the worst situation for a business owner. Never knowing except when looking at their balance sheet.

Do people that blog or post negative reviews about a company actually give those company's who are willing to listen a chance to know how they're behavior or actions are not conducive to winning in business, and gives them a chance to correct their actions for the future?

    What do you think?

well one thing is for sure, if a well know blogger (for example) say's something bad about your website. you will see an increase in traffic as people will want to see what all the fuss is about. and that's not a bad thing. i believe any publicity is good. If you have people talking about you then your on to something good because not everyone is going to agree to the bloggers opinion.

Bad reviews doesn't help, unless you can do something to turn it around to a positive thing. Consider it as feedback... I always think about Tiger Woods and EA Sports and the glitch turned into powerful marketing.

As Domino's has proven, bad reviews can be the best marketing tactic if used wisely.

Bad Review - defining this could make this clearer. Bad Reviews often get people clicking on links to "check out themselves", so traffic wise, yes this can be good. And I also believe this depends on whether the review is slating the reviewed content or merely providing constructive criticism. This is not a cocky answer and I actually think this is a brilliant question. One thing I was taught when studying to become a Software Developer was that the worst criticism can be the best, as it simply outlines your grounds for improvement.

I suppose it depends on what type of company you run, if it's sky diving class, bad reviews is definitely what you don't wanna hear....sorry couldn't think of a better example. Rep for the question though!!

As a general rule, I have to agree that bad reviews hurt companies more than help them. To answer the OP's question, I would guess that most people in todays world would not give a company a chance to correct their behavior. That is just my gut feeling of course and I could be wrong. I am sure that there are some that would but overall I think many people feel that they have been screwed enough by corporations and so therefore you only get one shot with them. Obviously it is in a company's best interest to make a good effort to service the customers needs if they want to avoid receiving bad reviews.

negative views, or cirticism needs to be taken in proper perspective. If the owner if of open mind and keeping his eys and ears also open, he can correct the mistake, or wrong action , anything on the basis of such kin of opposite view, or bad campaign, you may call it. It should be used to upgrade ones image rather than getting disheartened.
