Updating PR by Google

Discussion in 'Google' started by paidforumposters, Sep 16, 2010.

Why doesnt Google update the PR of websites on a realtime basis rather than after a specific duration.
If SERP is dynamically adjusted as a sites backlinks are developed then why doesnt PR follow the same rules and update more frequently.
Wouldnt it provide an easier metric for the quality of efforts that we put in improving our websites.

    All expert opinions welcome !

Everybody have being looking forward for Google PR update since the last update some months ago, most of webmaster are interested in Google PR than the content of the website and blogs, I think Google is not all that interested in PR update again, since it is more use for selling links today.

That is also one of the reasons they do not do it. Same as they also never show all the links that count when you look at your back-links. They do not want to make it easier for those who scam the system with blog comments, link wheels etc.

Ok so basically google doesnt want SEO .. it just wants websites to naturally come up in search results without any notice of the evaluating system.
Hmm quite rite.. But then shouldnt someone take the initiative to develop some standard metric. Just like many new metric systems have come up like compete and stuff like that. Is there any metric developed for site standards in google.

If you really are keen on PR and are fed up of waiting for an update. You might want to try out the SEOMoz toolbar. It calculates their version of pagerank called Moz rank. It helps you get a good feel for how things are going if you are monitoring links and the effect they are having on your site. It also gives you a bit more information with decimal points. So instead of not knowing how far you are from PR 4 when you are a three, the MozBar will give you something like 3.4 so you have a little better of an idea. Just one thing to mention though. You have to allow for a margin of error from real pagerank. But it is useful for gauging growth. If you are going from a 3.4 to a 3.6, you may not be exactly as such with true google PR, but atleast you know that there is some growth.

    My two bits.

Realtime PR updates would make gaming the system so easy it would be unreal. If PR were updated in realtime, a good quantitative analysis would pin the entire formula down in a matter of days.

The web is comprised of billions of pages, and recalculating PR in realtime, or even every day, is unrealistic in terms of the computing resources it requires, even for Google.

Yes, Mozrank is quite useful. It gives you an idea which sites have a PR penalty. For example if Mozrank has been a steady 5+ and PR is 3, then the site has probably been nailed for reciprocals or whatever.
