    hello friends,

i was doing my research for my new mini sites and couldn't find any domains that would fit my niche. only domains that are available are with dashes. does google care if the domains include dashes or not when it comes to SEO and ranking?

also - will they believe it's a spammy site and remove it from google? i'm not planing on doing anything forbidden, i just can't find the right domain wo/ dashes.

    thank you,

I don't think it has much effect on ranking though domains without dashes is more remarkable and user-friendly for your visitors.

Unless you are trying to "brand" your business using the domain, the domain will have very little effect on rankings. In fact, there are a great many sites that have domains with no impact at all on the content. The key is good content and good publicity. Treat your visitors right and the domain means nothing. One of my best sites ever had dashes in the domain, and it outperformed all my competitors.

    Hi,

In my own experiences, domains with dashes would have no difference in Google's eyes, especially for SEO purpose. :) Also, you might try to to find and pick up domains with different suffix like .net etc. when .com is not available.

    all the best,

There is no problem in using dash in domain name. But search engines give preference to domains without a dash. You can beat those domains by having more quality links to your site.

Google recognizes dashes as spaces. So domain name with dashes will have very little affect on SEO.

All domain name are the same in the eye of Google and other search engines, domain name with dash, number and pure letter are all the same. Only short domain names I think have little advantage over long domain name.

Domain with dashes holds the same density as domains without the dashes/hyphens.

    your-domain.com has 100% density and
yourdomain.com has 100% density as well.

Dashes are so 1999 :) Try to not use dashes if you can. Honestly, I'd go for .info over .com with dashes any day.

After the caffeine update, there is very little credibility to these arguments. Hyphen domains are no more an issue at all. There are other important stuff to deal with. In my opinion, .info is the only domain hiccup in SEO.
