Hi I have started writing articles I have done about 20 now, but is this the best way to get backlinks? I am posting them on articlebase.

    Yes, it is.

Post them to different article directories in order to get backlinks from websites with different IPs :)

Yeah, articles are great - they're steady, get indexed every time, and last the lifetime of the website.

angeldimit was referring to the backlinks pointing to your website. If you get links from multiple article sites, there will be more unique domains pointing to your website, which is a good measure for improved SEO.

Thanks that clears things up a bit as I like to take the effort with my articles and not just slap them on, so atleast it will be worth it :) is there anywhere else other than articlebase that people would recommend?

It would make more sense to submit to many different article directories, and gain a variation of backlinks from different websites with different PR. Ezine articles have the highest PR of all the article directories, so would be worth your while.
The other thing to consider is that as I understand it google will only show results from an article directory once on the first page, so, for instance, if you submitted 10 articles on the same subject (keyword) to one article directory, only one article could possibly make it to page 1.

Article submissions has helped me alot. Get a quality writter to compose your articles (I got 20 quality unique articles for $75) then submit them to a range of directorys. Add your link to the additional links or writers section and you should build up your backlinks nicely :)

Cool I will try that, I tend to write only 1 article per subject anyway, so can I just copy and paste into other article sites or do I have to write another one so it isn't duplicated?

If you post a unique article per aritcle directory, you WILL get good traffic and some excellent backlinks, I use:

ezinearticles - excellent for authority and traffic
articlebase - goods for others adding your article to their site, sometimes they remove the bio though :(
    amazines
    goarticles
    articlealley
    articledashboard

these are in order of importance the first being the most important - hope it helps.

There are many different views on this... some say post an article to your blog/site then submit the same one to article directories as it is your own unique article and not duplicated. However, Ezine Articles insist on unique content and won't accept this, other article directories are more flexible.

The safest way is to make each article unique, rewriting it somewhat so that it is adequately different, some people use article spinning software to achieve this.
I have not used this type of software enough to rate it or recommend a particular spinner to you though.

You are better off creating a blog and submit your articles there.

Take a look at an article on ezinearticles, there are 100’s of internal links on the page.

Any value that you get to your article is being shared to all the other links on the page. Article directories are not worth it for that simple fact.

Hubpages and Squidoo are my favourites at the moment. You can have links in the main body, your profile and a summary box (on HP).

Don't forget to Ping, RSS, Ping the RSS and submit to as many social bookmarking places as possible.

Does anyone use Posterous? I'm going to give it a go for a new project, but wondered on people's opinions.

Press release submission is the only useful 'article' submission.
