What exactly is Joomla? And how is it different to Wordpress?
Is it easy to use (like wordpress) or do you need some special knowledge?

    Thanks

Without going in to too much detail Joomla is an open source Content Management System (CMS)

I'm deliberately oversimplifying this but Wordpress is predominantly a blogging platform whilst Joomla is geared toward full-featured websites/portals. That's not to say you can't blog with Joomla nor build websites (as opposed to blogs) with Wordpress but that's just the direction they came from.

That very much depends: You *can* use Wordpress and Joomla straight "out of the box" but you get out of Wordpress and Joomla what you put into them and it's up to your level of expertise, commitment and ambition what you make of them.

If you think Wordpress is easy then Joomla is different and you'll need a little time to acclimatise to the change - Joomla has more features, extensions IMO

The best advice is to just install a test copy, "take it for a spin" and see what you think.

Joomla is a CMS which means content managment system. I personally think it's very very bulky compared to Wordpress however I haven't used Joomla for about 2 years since I thought it was very bulky. I can really recommend using Wordpress as a CMS for your website needs.

Again, this very much depends on what the OP wants to do. What are the OP's website needs?

True, Joomla is more "bulky" compared to Wordpress but that's because it has a larger feature set than WP. If the OP wants a simple 10-page site then Wordpress is probably perfect. If the scope of the website is much bigger e.g. high-traffic, content and feature-rich then Joomla! may be more appropriate.

Is just a software to build websites. That's it very simple. I think the only difference is that Joomla will have more options to build different types of websites.

For the SEO part people will tell you Wordpress is better but as my experience tells me, if you work on the SEO well in Joomla it can match and overpass Wordpress.

JOOMLA content management system (CMS), which enables you to build Web sites and powerful online applications. Many aspects, including its ease-of-use and extensibility, have made Joomla the most popular Web site software available. Best of all, Joomla is an open source solution that is freely available to everyone.

    What Is CMS?
A content management system is software that keeps track of every piece of content on your Web site, much like your local public library keeps track of books and stores them. Content can be simple text, photos, music, video, documents, or just about anything you can think of. A major advantage of using a CMS is that it requires almost no technical skill or knowledge to manage. Since the CMS manages all your content, you don't have to.

Wordpress is great, but for building websites big or small, I prefer Joomla. It simply offers a greater level of control over every detail of your website.
