Fromyour experience, do "link to us" pages work? I don't mean link exchanges - I'm talking about the kids of page where a webmaster displays his banner and button graphics and just says, "Use the following code to link to us." I always though the pages looked a little silly, personally... but I'm wondering if it leads to a lot of people adding links that would not otherwise do so. Thoughts?
Yeah, I think it's really a shot in the dark. It's like, "why not try?..." I bet it's rare that anyone actually links (unless there is a reciprocal linking reward).
In 6-1/2 years of webmastering, I've never one time given a link to one of those "link to us" pages. And I never will. That domain might be sold next week without your knowledge, and the next thing you know, you have a link on your website pointing out to a porn site, a Viagra site, or the like!
why not to try it? it costs nothing for a try , sometimes I think it works very well if you have a lot of real fans
generally those who are aware of SEO will not do a link back to those site so easily. But in this world not all users are SEO and are aware SEO impact of linking to sites that can change into a bad neighbor in future. So, if these people like the website theme and content, they will definitely give link to those on their blog or website...and in return it will help the website somehow...
typically "link to us" pages work best for sites that are worth to link too. sites with great content. the internet is flooded with made for adsense sites and affiliate sites so I am sure anyone using a "link to us" page on those site would be wasting their time.
It's been a good practice since the olden days to remind visitors or readers about linking to their pages if they find it interesting. And it's not at all about Link Exchange or other similar practices. If the content is worth reading, then sending a back link to it, is natural. So it's good.
Don't bother with "link pages" simply find partners that are flexible as to where you put their link and vice versa. Get contextual links in the primary location for your desired anchor text. Having a page set aside for these "partnerships" is a good way to get yourself noticed by Google for cutting corners. I have seen link pages actually help sites out too but they had less than 15 total reciprocal links. So the other suggestion, don't go overboard if you do decide to do it. There are so many directories out there that I wouldn't bother with the ones that force you to add a reciprocal link.. if you do do this only add links for very high quality sites that will add to your rep!
Yes it works as you will get a share of your their links but if the site where you build your got spammed, banned or removed, there is a greater possibility of you getting under black list of Google. So, don't bother to add your link into these sites.
I agree that it is quite a stretch to think that someone would go through all that trouble to include codes that link to your site for nothing. There has to be some kind of reciprocation involved. Like an affiliate type of linking. Link to us and each traffic you give us earns you $.01
I've seen it be successful on other sites, it's never really paid off for me though unfortunately. I guess it depends on the type of site.
If the website that's asking for the link has compelling enough content worth linking to, I could see how it could work. But then again you don't need to give explicit permission to have someone link to your site (although I'm sure lawyers would think otherwise
