I've heard from many people that sites made with Joomla! are not good for SEO. Please share your opinion.

The way it comes, no it's not the best SEO wise. You have to make sure you set up search engine friendly URL's, and find ways to overcome a few other hurdles. There are some great plug-ins available to make Joomla sites SEO friendly, but if you use it as is then yes, it has some aspects to it that are not very good for SEO.

well, i would like to say that, after Wordpress, Joomla is world'd 2nd best and SEO Friendly Open Source CMS. We just need some components to be developed by some developers and some are avail on net. But Joomla is SEO Friendly. you can use SEF for SEO Friendly URL and Title META.

Yup cms systems are great - no need to worry about your internal linking structure - well maybe a few tweaks but joomla is great - I have a joomla website on page 1 of google for a highly competative keyword and the site only has like 3-4 pages - not optimised properly but still anking high

Whether Joomla is SEO friendly or not depends on:

    1) How you configure it, but more importantly
    2) The theme and widgets/components you select to use on the site.

It's the theme and widgets/components you use on your site that render the actual HTML that the search engines see... It's the HTML that is rendered that affects the most on-page/on-site ranking factors.

I do think there are some problems with Joomla in regards to the way URL's are created, but SEO is generally an effort process. There isn't an easy answer unless we're talking about some truly non competitive keywords.

Well, that is what I am talking about. If the CMS is not SEO friendly itself, then all the effort will go in vain.

Absolutely not... There is nothing wrong with using readily available templates available online. All I am saying is that some templates are much more SEO-friendly than other templates. So if you care about SEO then choose your template wisely.

I used Joomla for an ecommerce site and did very well.

You do need to use the available plugins to make the URLs search engine friendly, although Google is getting better at understanding query strings.

Joomla is a hard-coded CMS. Not an SEO friendly CMS, unlike Wordpress.

    Hi,

In my own experiences, Joomla is well enough for SEO purpose. If you need extra SEO feature, you could also find some add-ons on its official forum and site. Also, I think search engines would have no difficult in dealing with dynamic sites these days.

    all the best,
