I am running a Competition on my website for the first time.

Apart from my website and Facebook page what other ways can I get people to hear about it?

    Thank you.

You could send out a Press Release on prweb.com.

Or try other types of social media - Stumbleupon,Digg
Put some of those on your competition page

There are sites that make it their business just to list contests. Do a search and you will find them. Also, many blogs hold contests and giveaways and let you post yours there. Also will find this info in search.

I would definitely go with a PR. These are done with the intention of providing new information that is often temporary. Submit it to different PR sites. Also consider email marketing. When in doubt I always recommend people to purchase email marketing. You can even include your PR in the email. I think combining an assortment of options will get you better results.

    1. Create an email signature that links to information about the competition.
    2. If you're on Twitter, tweet about it, maybe even daily with updates about the competition or just reminders to participate, and use relevant hashtags so searchers find you even if they don't follow you.
    3. Seek out opportunities to guest post on related blogs, or get bloggers in your niche to mention your competition.
    4. Post a short video on YouTube telling people about the competition.
    5. Post on related forums about the competition, include a sig link to the competition
