Would you join new social sites ?

My question is simple, would you join new social sites or you are an old fashion guy who sticks with what it exists and don't give something new the chance to grow ?

I own such a site, it is www.tumbol.com

If it provides features that the current biggies (i.e. Facebook) doesn't have, which are interesting and edgy enough.. Yes. If not, no chance..

I would always give something a chance, and If I myself like it, I would tell my friends to join and then have them tell their friends.
This seems like a neat opportunity!

I like the concept of Tumbol and the homepage, it seems rather inviting although I would suggest that you improve the sign up process by customizing the Wordpress login page so that it matches your site (you can easily remove the wordpress logo, modify the text, etc.). I know there are a few free plugins to do just that, let me know if you can't find them and Ill have a look for you!

    Cheers!

I believe everything needs a chance. But as a lot of people said there has to be a reason why people would prefer a newer site! For example it will be hard to compete with Facebook because it has so many users! I love it because I live far away from my home town and on facebook I can see what my old friends and family members are up to. So starting a new site I believe it is really important to have something that attracts people to it! Like games. Some people hate farmville :) But hey that game is super popular now! Social networking is about people you have on there. And if I join a new site I would hate to be the only one there from my friends or try to convince them to join it.

Yes but for them to have traffic, people must visit them, I mean you can't expect a site to have traffic from nowhere.

From time to time I do try new social sites. I'll participate in them for a while, but if after a few weeks there is no gain from them, ie we don't receive significant traffic, then we will cancel our account, even if it is a do-follow site.

The large number of social websites makes me wonder, if there really are enough interested users for all these sites. And by users I mean real people. I do not find it interesting, if the service is full of user accounts, which are created just to market the content of a specific website by using some kind of automated tool. I have also noticed that the content created by websites marketed by this manner is mostly created to sell something. Sometimes this can be just the thing I am looking for, but usually I am just looking for information.

If the website can convince me that I can benefit from it, I would definitely consider joining. For example, if I could
    • Find truly interesting content
    • Network with people, who I cannot find anywhere else
the website might have a chance of having me as its user. I am pretty sure that another social bookmarking site is not worth my time (I am not talking about website introduced by the original poster, because I have not yet checked it out).
