I recently started a hookah reviews blog, and I was just notified that someone is using my article on their site. First, I am concerned about duplicate content, but they kept my affiliate links in the article, so I am not sure if I should be mad or not. My Article: http://www.hookahreviews.net/accessories/nammor-hose/ Their Copy: http://blog.hookahloungereviews.com/hookah_trends/accessory-review-nammor-hose
It looks like they left their contact information on this page: www hookahloungereviews com Give them a call or email and let them know that you're not happy with theft of your materials.
Remember to sound very formal and serious. Give them notice to remove the content within 7days (or something like that) or you will take legal action through the DMCA.. Chuckun
E-mail Ezine articles and let them know what happened. They might remove that article and maybe even ban the content thief! If you can't get anything resolved with this matter I wouldn't worry about it too much, it's just one article, not worth losing sleep over.
I wouldn't worry about it too much. This happens all the time, and you'll wind up wasting too much time (and thus making less money) by spending much time on this. If I were you, I would probably do nothing.
If they left the links then why bother? Better off spending your energy writing new original content.
Thanks for the advice, I won't do anything unless he continues to steal my work from me. If anything I can just make more money due to my affiliate links?
nothing worse than working so hard to put together an article and then see someone steal it. At least they retained the links.
If they retain links then I usually don't mind.. a good idea is to set up a template tag (or a post tag "[]") if you have the knowledge to do so, so that you can insert 'blind' link-backs to the post.. You see this a lot on lyrics type websites.. Where when you copy+paste them, there's a link to their site in the middle of the lyrics to prevent theft, but when you look at the actual lyrics page you copy it from, there's no link there.. It's simple enough to do, just wrap it in an invisible div.. make the div size 0 via CSS so it cant be seen, but when it's stolen, the link will be visible (because they wont have copied your CSS with it will they ) Chuckun
Personally, I usually can't resist letting the offender know that I am on to them. Not sure whether that is better or worse for me in the long run, but it usually seems to be enough to get that person to stop using my material. As for the duplicate content concern, most people will tell you this sort of theft really won't hurt your rankings. If it were that easy to kill someone's rankings, then everyone would be stealing and duplicating everyone else's content in order to ruin their competitor's rankings. It doesn't work that way.
Just file a DMCA with their host and adsense. It costs nothing and it will take down the page. You can Google DMCA template for instructions on how to do it.
Although it’s just one article and they have retained the links, I think it’s best to formally inform them that you’re aware that they stole your article. Who knows, it isn’t the first time they did it? And it wasn’t just you all along? When they have realized that their misconduct is being watched, surely they will take precautions or never do it anymore.
There is a lot of plagiarism happening. But I know exactly how it feels. Yes. You can try warning him/her by sending some email and also a legal warning. You need not worry if it happens to continue though.
If they kept your link in, I wouldn't be too worried about it. I would assume they didn't take the article the instant you posted it - meaning it had time to get indexed on your site first. Unfortunately, there are tons of people out there who go around ripping off content. However, if they keep doing it, or they take one of your articles and remove the link, I would contact them. If it gets bad enough, I would certainly file a DMCA notice.
Generally I won't do anything if they leave my links in the article. Then it's just like submitting the article to an article directory. If they remove my links, then they'll be hearing from me. I won't waste much time on it, but they will know that I've caught them they're technically broken copyright laws so they could be in a world of trouble if I wanted to push the issue.
