Why google is a popular search engine?

Why google is a popular search engine? Why other search engines like bing or yahoo or ask are not used as much as google is used? Can't we use bing or yahoo instead of google?

 

You can use any of the search engines. Yahoo and Bing get a large amount of traffic, even if Google gets more.

On the Internet, it is generally difficult to unseat the most popular site in any niche. CNN.com remains the highest ranked news web site primarily because it was the first such news web site. Because they have not stumbled, no one has been able to surpass them.

Interestingly, Google did unseat Yahoo years ago as the most popular search engine. This was primarily because at the time, Google's search algorithms generally did a better job providing users with the exact information they were looking for than Yahoo did. Google then continued to innovate more quickly, and better, than the other search engines did, with offerings such as AdWords, Gmail, Analytics, etc.

But don't overlook the other search engines if you are a marketer. They get plenty of traffic, provide a good user experience, and for marketing purposes, are somewhat easier to work with.

 

Google has better algorithm and the search results are more relevant.

 

I use Google because it is fast. Its interface is simple and easy to use. Besides, it has many useful features and always update and update so I don't feel boring when using it.

I don't think about changing to Yahoo or Bing.

 

I think Google search engine now has the trust of millions of internet users. This is the reason probably brand 'Google' is far better than Yahoo or Bing.

It's so very true. Speed is one thing that Google had managed to deal with and continues to make improvements. In this cosmetic world, no one complains about the simple & bland interfaces of Google. Be it the search engine, gtalk or gmail.
I mean as a user I would never switch to anything as long as I am fine using my existing thing.

 

I think one of the main reasons Google was able to beat Yahoo was because of sheer simplicity. Go to Google and the first thing you'll see is their logo and the search box. Right away you know this you're at a search engine and you can look things up. Go to Yahoo and you'll be bombarded with everything they offer, advertisements, expandable menus and more. Honestly, the search box looks like it's just meant to help you navigate around Yahoo's website, not the entire internet.

 

I think the results you get with Google are more relevant to your search, therefore I go to them for all of my searches.

 

Because it is very simple search engine, people tend to use it because its simplicity

 

In my opinion
1). simplest
2). very easy for dial up users
3). different languages
4). different companion programs like Google earth, Google desktop
5). search results and page load faster than other search engines

 

I'd definitely have to disagree. Yeah, they have a better algorithm, but many times the search results have A LOT to be desired. Spammers still "fool" Google on a daily basis.

 

I don't think that's really as much the reason as people have the phrase "Google It!" embedded in their brain.

 

Google is simple, yet powerful tool. If you know how to use it, u can change the world... LOL

 

it should be popular as its even default search engine for fresh installed linux systems.

 

Asian countries tend to use Yahoo allot more than Google.

algocomm put it the best back in the day Google became popular because it gave the best results. knocking out Yahoo, lycos, dogpile, altravista and other search engines that where once popular but now mostly forgotten. And Google has remained at the top ever since.

 

In my opinion Yahoo is so overflowing with information. Look at yahoo page, so distracting from your main purpose. Google is simple. May be Bing is trying to follow Googles steps but still I am used to google and won't betray.
