What is best for SEO – Content or Links?

In optimizing a website, which one do you think is the best for SEO, Whether content or Links?

Back links are the driving factors in all search engines in 2day's world.

For me, content is a king.
In my oppinion, content will give you more traffic from SE, then link will give you traffic from referral.
And as long as your link is still available and there are many probability you will have more traffic.
And if you have great content that well indexed, you always get any visitor that find more information about the article. CMIIW

 

Content is important but links will increase your website position. You can have the best content and optimize it to the fullest but that wont get you onto the first page of google for a competitive keyword. If you want to increase your serps and beat websites like Wikipedia your gonna need quality backlinks. Basically they're both important but you can only get so far with content before it's necessary to gain backlinks to get you to the top of the serps.

 

Thanks mbfootball47 for me your advise, but what should be the minimum of the content should be included on my home page. Since my home page has only few images, and how to achieve good rankings in Google for my keywords.

 

Minimum 250 words are required for a page but still it depends on the kind of page you have. And for achieving good rankings in google you can do link building for your targeted keywords..

As comparing with page contents, I would vote for back links. Of course, targeting right effective keyword would be the most important step. Also, basic on page optimization would be necessary for SERP purpose like title tags, meta description, h1, keywords in your page contents.

Both are best but as per Google Content is king.

 

In my opinion both are important, Content (relevant and quality with regular basis updation) and backlinks from relevant sites.

According to me both play an important role in their respective ways. Backlinks are must for traffic as well as popularity of a website. Also the content is important because until an unless you don't have good content on your website nobody will bother to scroll your website. Good content, more regular visitors...

Well in my point of view both are at same place.
If there is no content in the site then no need of linkbuilding and if there is not a single link then useless is the whole content either the content is unique....

 

In my point of view both are need for getting good result. But first on page and second one is Quality back link.

 

I think this is like asking what is more important for life... food or air?
The correct answer is BOTH.
But I would add the word "quality" to both... ie. quality CONTENT with quality LINKS pointing at it.

 

I agree with everyone who said that both content and backlinks are important. When having a website, remember best practices and the fundamentals of a good website - why you have it in the first place. You need good, relevant content because that is what will keep customers engaged in your website, thus increasing traffic and customers loyalty, and what the major search engines crawl. Then the major SE use backlinks (as mentioned in the last SES conference in San Francisco, CA, USA) to determine ranking in SERPs. Now, if you have content, remember to add your link inside as well as they are more important than sidebar and footer links.

Also, kristenstewartj, when you mentioned content, do you mean website content or having content in other websites? I would also suggest having some articles / content with a couple of links in other quality, trusted websites.

 

Content is so far ruling the SERP. Though links are somewhat equally important, but what matters at the end of the day is unique and quality content.

Both contents and links are important. Links are good because all the traffic depends on links but for the best, content is king. Some sites have great content but few links. You can achieve high ranking using these both. Good content always attracts more visitors and more links promote your website well....
