Does no follow attribute help with page rank sculpting?

There are 2 sides to this

On the one hand SEOs claim this practise is quite successful.

On the other, people believe that google will now delete any benefit to the destination page with no follow.

Google for its part is refusing to confirm or deny.

Does anyone have any experience with this?

Hmm very interesting, thanks for that.

He did seem to say though that less followed links in one area will boast page rank for that area... and the idea of pr sculpting is lesson the flow and intensify it on a few pages

Who knows. Certainly forums like this seem to no follow almost every internal link on their page - must be a reason for it because I am sure the webmasters on this site know more than I do...

    Cheers

    Hi Amitmax

Thanks for your reply. Just to be clear though, I am not talking the no follow attribute from other sites back to mine.

I am wondering if using the no follow on internal links on your own site (for example to contact, disclaimer or about us pages) helps to hoarde the page rank on your site to just a few of the more important pages

Offcourse, Nofollow won't help for increasing Page rank- it's foolish to think that- Nofollow just helps you to distribute your webpage Page rank wisely between all the linked pages.

    Hi Berg

So you would say that it does contribute to page rank sculpting?

Link juice doesn't flow through no follow links so it may be beneficial if you're thinking of PageRank sculpting for your website or homepage. Try to give importance to the pages you want link juice to flow through and don't use unwanted links or simply put no follow in them.

Here's the best explanation on PageRank sculpting - http://www.seomoz.org/blog/pagerank...ential-benefits-of-sculpting-pr-with-nofollow

    Hope that helps.

Thats a fantastic article, thanks very much Grimm.

Interestingly it is basically the exact opposite of what Cutts said in the video that Lukeg32 provided above. Makes you wonder...

Well it might be because previously, link juice was still passing through even to no follow links and the new pagerank sculpting method which was posted on SEOmoz was just a recent development by Google.

Actually, even your nofollow links will still suck up your PR, and it's for that reason that not many people use them in PR Sculpting anymore. I think the experts are just using techniques to keep the bots off certain parts of their site.

Well if you actually look as this image,

The no-follow link is still considered a link however with the new development in nofollow links is that it doesn't acquire link juice as it previously did so the links which are followed benefits the link juice more than it used to be.

And yes, webmasters also use nofollow links if they want bots not to crawl certain pages.

    Hi Node/1
The no follow wont help to get that page indexed but you could do that by linking from an external do follow page (pretty easy to find). If you want to get it done quickly you can then bookmark that page (that you linked from back to your site) then ping it and submit an RSS feed. In my experience this gets pages indexed very fast
