Do everything as do follow(social bookmarking, blog posting, forum posting, article submission). And also i recommend you to do niche directory submission.
Just don't get upset and keep working on seo factor . Try to get as much as relevant niche related links you can and always try to publish good content . It will work for sure but take some time . SEO is not a easy task and no one can stay on number 1 for many long days when keywords are too competitive ...

How ranking down? Have you made lots of backlinks with the same keywords. Avoid this, it is also known as google bombing. And if your website is new and you got ranked and lost it then dont worry. Do regular seo work.

while I agree with everyone saying to keep linkbuilding, I think it is always wise to look at what changed first...did your keyword density change....competition increase....backlinks go down.....site is young and google is shuffling? Identify the problem.
Look at what onslaught said. If you are keeping records of any changes you have made to your site and the dates, you may be able to pin point what change could have caused the drop. Outside of that, its basically doing the work. On and off page.
