I guess it makes more sense than just naming it backrub for the hell of it, but all the same thank god they changed it, it would have sunk if it was called backrub!

I don't think it would have failed even if it was named something more ridiculous than backrub. It was the ease of use and technology that made it what it is...not the name.

    HAHA

That page is Gold. You clearly see back then before they went corporate. They had some personality. It was written unproffesionaly and the logos were cheezy. AH web 1.0.

Wow that's cool. It kinda boggles the mind to think if they have decided to stick to that name. Think of all the jokes we'll be having right now :D

I think it's amazing when you look back at their humble beginnings and serves as a sort of inspiration, too, in way.

It's also ironic that the company we all strive to please, that we labour long hours to optimize our sites for, who we've all put on so high a pedestal started off with a page that looked no better than any other information superhighway pile up and doesn't even have a valid doctype, character encoding, properly closed tags or anything!

I don't think Backrub is a worse name than Google. Google now sound interesting just because it's a well-branded name. The name, Google, didn't tickle my fancy, when I first heard about it.
