Traffic drops suddenly

I have a movie review site with 5K unique visitors/day with 18 months domain old. In 27-July - 2010, my traffic drops to 2.700 unique visitors and 28-July - 2010 it drops to 500 unique visitors. Until now, my traffic is around 500 to 600 unique visitors/day.

I update my content daily (unique content, post 2 or 3 reviews/day). In 5 - August - 2010, I changed layout of site to hope better traffic but nothing happen.

I don't know the reason. Someone can help me or let me know how to improve my situation?

 

Are you updating your website continuously or stopped?You have to keep working on your On and off page optimization. May be this is short time fluctuation.

 

I keep updating my site continuously, before and after this thing happen.

 

I just think that Google is Weird! What are your serps like. Falling from number 1 to number 3 can make a difference for a big keyword.

 

Andyvn, consider adding no follow to your subpage links for pages like your privacy policy or other pages you arent trying to rank for, this can flow your pagerank to your other pages to drive rankings higher

 

This thing happens to me too for my movie site.But it got back on track at its own.

 

Thats been happening to me, too. I don't know if it's because Google is changing their algorithim or what, but I'm experiencing about half the traffic I used to!

 

Google is crazy. I had a site which jumped from 300 to 600 uniques per day for 2-3 weeks and then dropped back to 300. No idea why.

Have you lost any of your backlinks for some reason? Maybe a couple high PR sites which linked to you no longer do?

Or, check which keywords were bringing you in the most traffic. Like someone mentioned, maybe for "movie reviews" or some high traffic keyword you fell a spot or 2. Spot 1 in Google brings in about 42% of clicks, while spot 2 is closer to 10%. that right there could cause traffic to drop significantly.

 

That's why you should be running analytics and checking your log files.

 

Get back links from high page rank article site. This will give you more traffic.

As you mentioned above, I check all back links but I don't see any lost.

About highest rank keywords: I don't have any really high rank keyword. Keywords "movie reviews" and "movie trailers" are my highest but they only bring me around 120 visitors/day. In the past, when I get 5K visitors daily, I have nearly 3000 keywords/day. Currently, I have only more than 200 keywords/day.

Page rank of my site is still at 3. All my new movies are indexed by Google very fast (after I post new movie 5-7 hours, I can see it in Google indexed)

This thing is really crazy for me.

have u ever tried any kinds of submission with the help of automatic submitter software??? if yes then this is the reason behind it. google has been traced that u have used in-organic method to promote your site.

 

updating your website with fresh content is a must.

 

i guess you loose being at the top rank in search engines... aside for good content spend time on SEO too.

 

is your site went under any virus threat... sometimes mozilla firefox will not show your website, if your site is attacked by some malware program. Then automatically the traffic coming by that browser will gone. check whether your website is working fine with all browsers.

 

instead of changing the template you can do temporary redirection

 

Have you kept a record of the number of pages that have been indexed by google, an algorithm change alone could have shaken your world without any misconduct on your part. Are you continuing to grow backlinks?

You might try your ip in blacklist checkers, might be one at mxtoolbox.

 

maybe you just get in to google sandbox,.. otherwise since you change the layout, I suggest you check the html code of your site for better seo rather than old template,..
